Therapy
Individual therapy is a space for you to foster sustainable, trusting relationships with all parts of yourself.
My work is rooted in liberatory harm reduction, disability justice, body liberation, and anti-oppressive care. I strive to practice from a non-pathologizing perspective, which means that you define your experiences for yourself, outside the pressures placed on us by historically oppressive mental health systems. I am here to offer new frameworks in which to view your life; compassionate, curious accountability; and a nonjudgmental witness to your pain, grief, joy, growth, relationships, identities, and journeys.
I believe the purpose of individual therapy in times of heightened political & ecological violence is not to minimize our reactions to the violence, but instead to discover the resources we need to stay connected to ourselves and others while surviving it.
I see therapy as one part of an ecosystem of care, and support clients in connecting more deeply with their communities. I am committed to the slow process of building trust in the therapeutic relationship, and center consent, collaboration, humility, and authenticity in our work.
Specialization
I have advanced training & experience with folks seeking support around LGBTQ+ identities; climate distress & eco-anxiety; OCD; grief; trauma; depression; anxiety; eating disorders; ADHD; relationship challenges; art & writing blocks; issues facing working artists.
Approaches
While I offer these approaches as frames of reference, I prioritize creativity and collaboration in our work. When introducing theories to clients, I do so with consent and contextualization for how these theories came to be.
Harm reduction: Whether you are navigating an eating disorder, self-harm, or any form of coping that is no longer serving you, we’ll begin by compassionately understanding the purpose behind the behavior. From there, we’ll get creative, finding new ways for you to meet your emotional needs, connect with supportive community, and decrease shame.
Psychodynamic / relational therapy: In this work, we focus on your experience in the here-and-now. We’ll notice together how you feel in therapy and explore how that may reflect other relationships in your life, with the goal of identifying more sustainable ways to navigate your relationships.
Internal Family Systems: Sometimes called parts work, the goal of IFS is to help you find a greater sense of curiosity and compassion for all parts of yourself. We’ll identify, map out, and explore the roles of these parts, and together learn what they need to heal.
Inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy: I-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for OCD that does not require exposures. In I-CBT, we’ll work to understand the obsessional doubts at the heart of your OCD, with the goal of rebuilding your sense of self-trust. I can offer I-CBT as part of our regular work, or as supplemental support if you have a therapist & need additional OCD treatment.
